Out of the 6,900 languages spoken in the world, 2,200 languages still don’t have any verse of Scripture! That is approximately 350 million people—the population of the US and Canada together!
Wycliffe works in communities around the world to bring the Bible into the language that speaks the most directly to the heart—the mother tongue.
This is accomplished by a dedicated group of highly-trained workers
involved in translation, literacy, education, and community development.
Currently translation is occurring in over 1,990 language groups
worldwide!
Bible translation leads to complete life transformation
both in the individual and in the community. It reaches into poverty,
trauma, oppression, and disease by empowering people through literacy
and the healing Word of God. Lives are impacted through improving
health, providing job skills, negotiating government relations, working
toward cultural preservation, empowering women and children, and raising
self-worth and identity.
In 1999, Wycliffe sensed the increasing urgency of the need to bring Scripture to every people group, and so began Vision 2025,
a goal of beginning a translation project in each people group needing
one by the year 2025. It’s a giant task, but we have an even bigger
God.
These people have waited long enough!
